Different Types Of Mattresses

Mattresses are differentiated on the basis of how and what they are built with. Broadly, there are two types of mattresses: Memory foam mattresses and spring mattresses. However, the spring mattresses can further be divided into two types based on the types of springs used: Pocket spring mattress vs Bonnell spring mattress. But which one should you choose in bonnell spring vs pocket spring? Let us help you out and talk about all these different types and all of their different pros and cons in detail.

Memory Foam Mattress

A memory foam mattress is made of a layer of memory foam combined with springs or support foam. Memory foam provides remarkable support and comfort as it uses body heat to soften and molds according to the body shape. It bounces back very slowly and over time remembers your body shape hence the name memory foam.

Pros:- A memory foam mattress molds according to your body shape and provides optimal spine and muscle alignment and targeted support. It provides pressure point relief by equally distributing the bodyweight to reduce the pressure on the heaviest parts of your body.

Cons:- A memory foam mattress is very densely built and thereby can be quite heavy and difficult to move around. It also retains body heat which makes it too hot and uncomfortable to sleep in especially for people residing in warm and humid regions. These mattresses are not waterproof. Any contact of moisture with the mattress significantly reduces its life.

Bonnell Spring Mattress

A bonnell spring mattress is a type of spring mattress. The Bonnell spring mattress systems are one of the most traditional which are being used since the early 20th century. These consist of hourglass-shaped spring coils that are interconnected with a mesh of metal wire to make a spring system.

Pros :-  A bonnell spring mattress is very durable and gives a traditional feel. It also provides even support to the body and comes at a sufficiently low cost.

Cons :- A Bonnell spring mattress provides even support but people have complained of discomfort and aggravated pressure points which results sometimes in back pain. Also because of its interconnected nature, it does not offer good motion isolation.

Pocket Spring Mattress

A pocket string system is another type of spring mattress. This spring system consists of many separate spring pockets that move separately unlike the open coil and continuous coil mattresses. These contain 1000 to 2000 separate individual springs which are significantly higher than the traditional spring systems.

Pros :- The pocket spring mattress comes at a cheap price and due to having spring pockets that move separately these provide good motion isolation. These also absorb your body heat which helps you remain cool and get a comfortable sleep.

Cons :- Though they offer good motion isolation they produce little bounce waves because of movement which might disturb one’s partner. Also, they are not very long-lasting and start to sag which can have severe effects on the spine.
